What a combination – delicate billowing white lace flowers on an easy-to-grow tough plant. Great as a cut flower or to add frothy romance to the garden. Continuous bloom all summer, and it attracts butterflies too.
We grew Ammi for the first time in 2010 as the frilly white filler for our friends’ August wedding. When it began to bloom in early July we worried that it might be finished by mid-August. I cut back some plants severely, deadheaded others assiduously, and left the rest. All 3 groups were blooming profusely for the wedding – and continued to send up masses of tiny flowers until November. The plants didn’t appear diminished even after cutting for bouquets, making them perfect for double duty in the garden and as cut flowers.
Culture: easy germination, full to 3/4 sun, regular water until blooming, at which point it can get by with less. 3-4 feet tall.
Saving Seed: Let seed ripen and dry on the plant.
Grown in 2010; germination tested November 2011: 85%
Packet = around 150 seeds - $3.
