Chick season is in full swing here.
We have Black Ameraucanas from our own show-quality birds, supplemented with a variety of heritage breeds from Sandhill Preservation Center. Chicks for sale are at least six weeks old – healthy, sufficiently feathered to not require extra warmth, and in most cases with identifiable gender. We can provide good combinations of chicks for small backyard flocks that are especially friendly and/or ornamental. For those ready to help preserve a heritage breed and keep their own flock going into the future, we can provide starter breeding flocks with gentle roosters.

Here are the breeds we have available currently:

Black Ameraucana
Buff Catalana
Buff Chantecler
Cubalaya: White and Red Pyle
Egyptian Fayoumi
Polish: Golden, White-crested Black, and Splash
Salmon Faverolle
White-faced White Spanish

Prices:
$10 for chicks up to two months old, with $3 for each additional month in age (making a 5-month-old pullet $19); older birds priced individually

We do not have Lavender Turkeys for sale at this time.

Birds may be picked up at the farm by arrangement, and we can deliver along the Highway 101 corridor from the Bay Area to northern Mendocino County. We do not ship poultry.

Lavender Turkey Breeding Pairs

Baby Chicks need a heat lamp until they grow their first complete set of feathers (around 5 weeks). Some breeds are sexed, so you can be sure of getting pullets, and with some you take your chances. We will take back any unwanted rooster you bought from us – a consideration especially for urban chicken farmers who can’t keep roosters and may not want to eat them. If your rooster is of breeding quality we’ll do our best to find a flock for him, and if not he’ll have a good free-range life before being humanely slaughtered.

Big Chicks can move directly into your coop with no extra warmth provided. Most of them can be sexed at this stage, though there can still be surprises with some breeds (Orloffs and Polish sometimes produce stealth roosters).

At five months or older, you’ll know for sure whether you’re getting pullets or cockerels. Pullets begin to lay at 6 months. The only cockerels we sell at this stage are the very best of the bunch, the magnificently handsome guys with the mellow personalities. Why put up with anything else?
